Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the Pop art movement and one of the most influential figures in contemporary culture. Here, he appropriates a portrait of Truman Capote in his own aesthetic and style. This image of the famed novelist is taken directly from the catalogue accompanying an exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1979 and 1980 and featuring portraits of celebrities such as Liza Minelli, Mick Jagger, Victor Hugo, David Hockney, and Roy Lichtenstein.
