This past spring, Katie Darby Slater received her MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work focuses on creating abstractions out of quotidian life, paintings that find harmony through color, line, shape and light. Her work captures the nostalgic feeling of a place, as opposed to rendering it literally. Her paintings are celebrations of, and monuments to memory and imagination. Prior to graduate school, she received her BFA in Painting from Auburn University in 2011. After Auburn, she was the recipient of fellowships to attend artist in residence programs at the Art Students League of New York - Vytlacil Campus, Vermont Studio Center, and Pebble Hill Center for Arts and Humanities in Auburn, AL. Her work has been exhibited at Western Exhibitions in Chicago, IL, MX Gallery in New York, NY, Kathryn Markel Fine Arts in New York, NY, and the Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, GA, among other places. She is currently living and working in New London, CT.
